Penguin is our class mascot

Every Friday one child in Penguins class is given the opportunity to take our mascot home for a weekend sleepover. He will bring hot chocolate and biscuits to share with you and your family and a bedtime story chosen by each child. You can take photos of the fun you have with Penguin, send them to us via Dojo and we will put them in Penguins special diary which we will share with the class.

Meet the adults in Penguins class

My name is Miss Clough and I am the teacher in the Penguins class. I am subject leader for music throughout the school and I lead the school choir. I have worked at Harrow Gate Primary Academy for 6 years and I love singing with the children and reading stories everyday. A few interesting facts about me...my favourite animal is a penguin and I have a dog, a cockapoo named Scout and we love to walk on the beach and at the Barrage.

My name is Mrs Edwards and I am the teaching assistant in Penguins class. I have worked at Harrow Gate Primary Academy for 26 years and I like reading and practicing phonics everyday with the children. I enjoy spending lots of time with my grandchildren

Hi, I'm Miss Hughes and I'm an apprentice Teaching Assistant. I also run a Sunday School in my spare time. I have been part of the Harrow Gate family for a year now. I love singing and playing my guitar.

Meet the adults in Bees class

Hi everybody! I am Mr Majeed and I am so pleased to be joining Harrow Gate Primary Academy this year and getting to know you all!!                     Here are a few interesting facts about me...I have 5 pets. 2 dogs and 2 cats. Can you guess my last pet? Here is a clue - it has no legs. What could it be? I love walking with my dogs in the countryside. At the moment I am trying to learn to play the guitar! Wish me luck!

Hello. I'm Miss Owens. I'm a Teaching Assistant and work in Nursery all day. I have been part of the Harrow Gate Family for nearly 16 years. I love reading and singing with all the children.

Uniform in Reception

We do ask that all school uniform including shoes is labelled with your child's name where possible as we will be unable to identify lost clothing to be returned.

Learning in Reception

At Harrow Gate Primary Academy we love to read. Our topics are linked to Power of Reading and we take any opportunity to share stories with the class. As part of this, we have a free class-sharing library where we encourage the children to borrow a book to share at home with their families.

At Harrow Gate Primary Academy we use ‘class dojo’ to communicate with our families. The children receive rewards and share their work with parents through their class dojo.

To build on positive behaviour each class has a class mascot that will be given to one child on a Friday who has shown fantastic- Achievement, Resilience or Trust within the classroom. The children can share weekend activities with the class mascot and the following Monday this will be shared with the class.

Every half term as part of our learning, we will encourage the children to partake in a home learning activity linked to our topic. We do not give the children homework but we do expect all children to read on a regular basis. We will provide children with a school reading book, which they will keep for a week, and this will be changed on a specified day every week.
